Radio Wimborne gave their listeners the chance to understand a bit more about Venus Business Awards and what it takes to be nominated and win from two local Dorset business women.
Oxana Ruckhaber of Minster Designs, for fabulous wedding gowns and our very own Barbara Fowler of My Babylog and My Weddinglog, talked to Philip Webster of Radio Wimborne recently.
They are followed by Venus Awards Founder, Tara Howard who wraps up the interview: < Listen here >

Not content with winning the Dorset Networker of the Year Award in September 2015, our MD Babara Fowler went to the National Finals last week and came back with yet another title and trophy!
Barbara shared her multiple success with three other fellow Dorset winners, who also went on to claim top spots in their categories at the ceremony which was held at Audley Wood Hotel in Basingstoke.
No less than FOUR Dorset Winners with a promotion car from Sandown Mercedes Benz.
Once again Barbara’s sponsor was the charming Mr Peter Gilbert – Head of Operations at Playgolf Bournemouth.
And because he is always working so hard in the background, here’s a picture of him up front, making a speech and, let’s be honest, being the best dressed sponsor in town!
But there’s more to come from the day:
But when it came to the charity fund-raising prize draw, Barbara was also the lucky benefactor to win the star prize – a professional makeover photoshoot and diamond package with The Photo Rooms in Southampton.
The Prize is worth £500 – but we’re not telling you to gloat – Barbara is donating the prize to a special cause. Whilst the plans are in progress and are not yet concrete, the aim for Barbara is to enable a deserving young lady (whoever she may turn out to be) to feel pampered, beautiful and empowered – all with the spirit of Venus Womens Awards in mind.
We will of course keep you updated!
The Venus Business Awards goes National on the 7th July 2016 and our MD is in the running for another award!
Barbara Fowler of My Babylog and My Weddinglog, jokes:
“I’d better win, because I’ll be spending my husbands 70th birthday with the Venus Business Award girls! So it had better be worth it!”
On a serious note though, while she doesn’t expect to win against such stiff national competition, it would be a great achievement to come home with the trophy and it would balance the perpetual OCD of the office assistant with regards to the “Venus Award shelf”!!
Best of luck to Barbara and all the ladies from Dorset Venus Awards who will be attending Audleys Wood Hotel in Basingstoke for the ceremony.
My Babylog and My Weddinglog founder, our lovely MD, Barbara Fowler found herself and some fellow Venus Ambassadors staring out at people in Bournemouth from the side of a specially commissioned Yellow Bus.
The double-decker is promoting the Venus Women in Business Awards for Dorset which is still accepting nominations of deserving local business women until June 13, 2016.
A red carpet is not the usual thing you would find in the middle of the Yellow Buses transport yard and apart from the photo shoot each lady was otherwise resplendent in an array of fluorescent his-vis waistcoats!
Main picture (L-R): Sharon Canning, Julie Cook-Hughes, Caroline Swaine, Lisa Delahunty, Barbara Fowler and Barbara Cox.
The Awards are organised by Tara Howard (pictured infront of the car) and generously sponsored by a host of local businesses, including: Mercedes-Benz of Poole, Play Golf Bournemouth, Heart FM, Atlas Elektronic UK, Yellow Buses (RAPT Group), Dutton Gregory Solicitors, Bournemouth University, Daily Echo, Exterion Media, Tigerlilly Nails, Enhanced, Move On, Interlink Express, Ratio, Ash Elite, MPloy, Bizpedia, Boo and Talbot Heath School for Girls.
Many thanks to the ladies at Yellow Buses for their hospitality on a damp day.
Now that Spring has sprung, the wedding season is properly underway with events across the country giving Brides & (modern) Grooms inspiration and advice on “W-Day”!
My Weddinglog features in many of these events and offers the chance to win one of the beautiful keepsake chests for those who fall in love with it too!
May is quite literally marvellous for Bride-to-be Heather Young and her Groom Andrew Wilkins, who won the competition at the Britannia Royal Bath Hotel yesterday. We’d like to remind them that there is a “frame” waiting for their favourite photo of the wedding in our Hall of Fame and wish them many happy memories to fill it with.
At My Babylog HQ, 2015 brought highlights in the form of a new big name retailer, a BBC4 series and recognition amongst local businesswomen.
2016 is set to bring even more opportunities for our MD, Barbara Fowler, as already the year has seen two radio interviews booked.
On Hope FM, Sharon Channing will be talking with Barbara, Caroline Swaine, Lisa Pierson and Gill Donnell MBE, all Ambassadors of the Venus Women in Business Awards, discussing the recognition of being nominated by their peers and having gone on to win their categories. The Ambassadors will be on hand to inspire future candidates, and winners, to be the best they can be in their line of business.
Mary Hurst will be having a chat with Barbara on Hopsital Radio Bedside (a Charity of which Barbara has been an Honorary Member for over 20 years) finding out about her role in BBC4’s scripted-reality series based on the lives of people over 65 in Bournemouth, (nobody likes the label “OAP”!). THe show had mixed reviews, with some disliking the demographic of the characters (being more used to the younger generation being depicted on such programmes), however the controversial players and scripted dialogue lead personalities to clash and be portrayed outside of their usual character.
Now released from the confines of her contract, the interview will reveal a behind-the-scenes truth of life in a reality series!
The Venus Women in Business Awards were held at Lighthouse – Poole’s centre for the Arts – on Friday 18th September 2015.
14 winners were whittled down from over 300 entries, through semi-finals and finals before the presentation ceremony.
My Babylog and My Weddinglog M.D. Barbara Fowler (2nd from left) was nominated for “Networker of the Year”, sponsored by Playgolf Bournemouth and – we are absolutely delighted to announce – she brought home the award!!
“Barbara Fowler is the most tenacious person I know… she NEVER gives up… she NEVER gives in and she NEVER (ever) takes “No” for an answer!”
It’s a great achievement to not only win but also to be recognised by other business people for her contribution within Bournemouth and Dorset networks.
The Venus Awards are often referred to as the “Business Women’s Oscars” so true to form Barbara made a gift of personalised Oscar statues to other friends who were nominated… well why should Hollywood A-listers only get one?!
Our MD Barbara Fowler has been voted through to be a finalist in the “Networker of the Year” category of the Venus Women in Business Awards.
This is in itself a great achievement due to the number of deserving women nomnated at the start of the process, but of course we hope that she will go on to the ultimate success.
We would like to thank Playgolf Bournemouth who are sponsoring Barbara’s category.
There’s just over 27 hours (not that we’re counting) to go.
The Venus Women In Business Awards announcement of finalists will be hosted by Stewart Garden Centre on Tuesday 21st July.
Our MD Barbara Fowler has plenty of time to get her gladrags on, she is one of five semi-finalists in her category, “Networker of the Year”, all hoping to get through to the finals ahead of the Award Ceremony on 18th September at The Lighthouse in Poole.
While we naturally want Barbara to do excel, we wish all the other ladies the very best of luck! 🙂
Recently the lucky winner of a competition run by Mags4Dorset was chosen and has now received their prize.
Barbara Fowler, My Babylog MD, visited the magazine office on 30th June to present the chosen Blue & Cream My Babylog memory chest, a My 1st Heartbeat recorder and an Inkless Hand and Footprint kit… but who accepted the prize is a secret until the next issue!
We love to tease… but you can keep ahead of the latest publications by clicking the logo:
You may remember a recent post regarding, My Babylog and My Weddinglog founder, Barbara Fowler being nominated for four categories in the Venus Business Awards (Dorset).
Well we are pleased to confirm that she has got through to the semi-finals in the “Networker of the Year” category and is now looking forward with her fellow business women to the announcement of the finalists.
The confirmation of who will go through to the final round for votes, will be made at Stewarts Garden Lands, Christchurch on 21st July accompanied by an afternoon tea.
On the 25th June 2015, I and a host of other nominees attended an evening event hosted by Breeze Volkswagen at their Poole showroom, for the announcement of the semi-finalists.
I am delighted to say that I am through to the next round along with some lovely and deserving ladies!
The next step is an interview to get to know each semi-finalist better, then the announcement of the finalists in a few weeks time.
Wish me luck!!
In June My Babylog and My Weddinglog were featured in Mags4Dorset in an interview with Janine Pulford.
The magazine ran a competition alongside the article and we are pleased to confirm the winner.
Jaqueline de Trafford met up recently with our MD Barbara Fowler, who presented the My Babylog Memory Chest in Jaqueline’s choice of colour – blue and cream – along with a “My 1st Heartbeat” recorder and an “Inkless Hand and Foot print kit” too.
The chest will be on it’s way to Kent, arriving in plenty of time for her nephew Stuart and his wife Karen, who are expecting their second child next month.

If you read articles, whether online or in print, you are unlikely to avoid the overnight frenzy about the new constructed-reality television programme from the producers of “The Only Way Is Essex” or TOWIE, and “Made In Chelsea”.
“Close To The Edge” – a new Electric Ray production for BBC Four – is scheduled to air later this Summer and since the news broke, the “cast” photo has been featured by OK! magazine online, The Telegraph (twice!), The Guardian, The Standard, The Daily Mail, Metro News, The Radio Times and many many more publications.
Close To The Edge is set in Bournemouth with all of the cast from the local area. The six-part series will follow the cast’s everyday lives with a focus on more serious issues than those reality programmes usually follow – including education, divorce, sexuality, gender roles, and yes about death too. Speaking about Close To The Edge, BBC Four Channel Editor Cassian Harrison said: “It reveals the passions, predilections and prejudices that beat as strongly in the hearts of the over-60s as any other generation.”
Barbara is currently looking over my shoulder and would like you to know she “is the baby of the group” !!

My Babylog and My Weddinglog creator Barbara Fowler is nominated in four categories in the sought after Venus Awards (Dorset).
The semi-finals are to be hosted by Breeze Volkswagen on Thursday 25th June, with the finalists being announced at an event held by Stewarts Garden Centre on 21st July.
The Awards will be presented on 18th September and we hope Barbara will be there!
My Babylog and My Weddinglog founder Barbara Fowler, had a conversation with Janine Pulford at Mags4Dorset in their June 2015 issue.
Answer a question from the interview for your chance to WIN a My Babylog Memory Chest (your choice from our three colours) PLUS an Inkless Hand and Footprint Kit AND a My 1st Heartbeat recorder.
There will also be a follow up in either July or August this year too!
We were delighted to be one of 150 guests invited to The Marsham Court Hotel to celebrate the return of the Bournemouth building to its original name.
My Babylog and My Weddinglog memory chests are stocked by the events team for those who book the hotel for weddings or baby showers, so we had twice the reason to attend!
For the past few years the building was under contract with Days Hotel Group in order to raise £1.5m to renovate the 87 bedrooms, lobby, bar and conferencing facilities.
The Marsham Court Hotel began welcoming visitors in 1913 to its prime location on the East Cliff with fabulous seas views, and expanded in 1923 when demand for its humble 13 bedrooms spurred a link to the neighbouring properties creating 41 rooms. During WW2 the building was taken over by the United States Red Cross as a convalescent home for injured soldiers.
Jennie Deavin, mother of current director Rosie Wallace, bought the hotel in 1987 when it was in need of refurbishment and Rosie explains that despite it’s temporary moniker, faithful guests and the local community still referred to it as the Marsham Court.
We are very pleased to see this historic hotel given a new lease of life inside and to see it’s traditional name back up above the door and wish both the hotel and the team the best for the future!

The ever growing My Babylog (and My Weddinglog) family of friends have been teased about founder Barbara’s part in a new television series.
So what is it about? Well, what we can tell you that it is “a constructed reality programme about the lives of a group of Bournemouth locals who are all aged over 65 and living full and exciting lives” … although Barbara would like it known that she is the baby of the bunch! 🙂
Expect tears, tiaras and tantrums, laughter and – most important of all – expect the unexpected.
Currently under a working title, the series date is still yet to be confirmed but release is due to be Summer 2015.
We promised we would update you as we go, so continue to watch this space!
So we’ve teased you about a programme that My Babylog founder, Barbara Fowler, has been working on for the last few months.
While we still can’t say too much at the moment, due to restrictions in the contract, we can say that there are only three days of filming left before it’s “in the can” as they say.
Truthfully it’s been a bit of a roller coaster, with laughs and jokes and the obligatory clashes of personalities and freeze-frame moments, but hopefully it will relate truthfully to events after going through the editing suite!
When we have an air date, we’ll be sure to update you.
